Chapter 1
Chemical Reaction and Equation
Chemical Reaction- Two or more than two substance are react together and made one or more product, called chemical reaction
Chemical Reaction includes-
1. Change in state
2. Change in colour
3. Change in Temperature
4. Evolution of Gas
Chemical Reaction in daily life
1. Digestion
2. Respiration
3. Rusting of iron
4. Making Curd
Reactant - Those substance which is participated in a reaction .
Product- Those substance which is the result of a chemical reaction.
Chemical Equation- Chemical reaction is represented by chemical equation. Reactant and product of a chemical reaction are represented by chemical formula to write chemical equation.
Product- Those substance which is the result of a chemical reaction.
Chemical Equation- Chemical reaction is represented by chemical equation. Reactant and product of a chemical reaction are represented by chemical formula to write chemical equation.
Q Why it is important to balance an equation?
Ans. The Chemical reaction need to be balance so that it can follow the rule called Law of conservation of mass means Mass can neither be created and nor be destroyed in a chemical reaction
Types of chemical Reaction
1. Combination Reaction- A single product is formed from two or more reactants is called combination R
2. Decomposition R.- When a single reactant breaks down into two or more product is called decomposition R.
3. Displacement Reaction - When an element displaces another element from its Compound, called displacement R.
4. Double Displacement R.- Two different atoms or groups of atoms are exchange is called double displacement reaction
Oxidation and Reduction
Oxidation- If a substance gains oxygen during a reaction, is called oxidation
Reduction- If a substance loses oxygen or gain hydrogen during a reaction, called reduction
Effects of Oxidation and Reduction
Corrosion- When a metal is exposed to moisture , air, water acid etc for some time, is called corrosion. e.g. Rusting of iron
Rancidity- The oxidation of fats and oil Containing food when exposed to air is known as rancidity. It leads to bad smell and taste of the food.
Types of Chemical Reaction on the basis of Temperature
Exothermic Reaction- In which Reaction heat is released along with the formation of products is called exothermic R.
Endothermic Reaction- In which Reaction energy is absorbed is clled endothermic Reaction.
